Orangettes are a classic chocolate confection made by coating, or enrobing if you want the technical term, thin strips of candied orange peel in chocolate, a combination of bittersweet citrus and rich cocoa that’s truly stood the test of time. Also known as chocolate-dipped orange peel or orangettes confites, they’re a traditional treat with roots in French and Belgian patisserie.
The process begins by gently candying the orange peel, which softens its natural sharpness while preserving its bright, zesty flavour. Once coated in chocolate, the result is a satisfying contrast of textures and tastes — not too sweet, with a clean finish that makes them easy to reach for again. At Ruxstons this is the only chocolate treat that we do prefer to eat from the fridge, it helps increase the contrast between the chocolate and candied orange peel.
Historically, orangettes were enjoyed as petits fours or served alongside coffee and liqueurs, especially around the festive season. Today, they’re just as at home as an after dinner bite and can be slip seamlessly into a dinner party as a result. Cupido’s version of chocolate orangettes keeps the tradition alive with classic Belgian care.
